HO CHI MINH CITY, November 18, 2022 – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Global Health Dr. Atul Gawande traveled to Ho Chi Minh City from November 17 to 18. During the trip, Dr. Gawande met with provincial government authorities, health care workers, community and public health leaders, academic experts, international donor partners, and public health students to highlight USAID’s partnership with Vietnam strengthening its health systems to save lives and advance global health security.
HANOI, November 15, 2022 – Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), launched a new USAID project to reduce environmental pollution through Vietnamese-led collective action. The new project, Reducing Pollution, is a five-year, $11.3 million effort implemented by USAID partner Winrock International, in close cooperation with MONRE. Joining the launch ceremony were MONRE Minister Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Chief of Mission Melissa Bishop, USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Aler Grubbs, and Winrock International President and CEO Rodney Ferguson.
HANOI, September 27, 2022 – On September 26, 2022, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced liquid oxygen systems for 10 additional Vietnamese hospitals. In total, USAID is providing 23 hospitals with liquid oxygen systems. USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Aler Grubbs made the announcement Monday afternoon alongside leaders from the Ministry of Health and numerous provincial departments of health, who were gathered to celebrate the completion of USAID’s installation of liquid oxygen systems in 13 hospitals across five provinces.
Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People’s Committee launched a project to accelerate renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions to the city’s urban energy challenges. Joining in the launch celebration were USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Aler Grubbs, HCMC People’s Committee Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan, Acting Consul General Graham Harlow, General Director of HCMC Department of Industry and Trade Bui Ta Hoang Vu, and representatives from provincial departments.
HANOI, September 12, 2022 – Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced that it has signed its first-ever Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to improve the quality of Vietnamese higher education. MOET Minister Nguyễn Kim Sơn and USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Aler Grubbs signed the MOU on Friday evening, September 9, at a ceremony hosted by MOET.
HANOI, August 1, 2022 – Today, the United States, through U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a five-year, $14.2 million partnership with three leading Vietnamese universities. The Partnership for Higher Education Reform, announced by Vice President Kamala Harris last fall in Hanoi, will collaborate with universities, key government officials, and industry partners to strengthen higher education in Vietnam.
HANOI, June 14, 2022 – Today, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partner, PATH, celebrated the completion of the eight-year USAID/PATH Healthy Markets project and launched the new five-year USAID/PATH STEPS project at an event that was attended by USAID/Vietnam Deputy Mission Director Bradley Bessire. The US$20.7 million USAID/PATH Healthy Markets project ran from 2014 to 2021 and was funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Through the project, USAID and PATH worked with the Ministry of Health’s Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) to generate sustainable approaches for increasing investment in, demand for, and supply of transformational HIV-related goods and services.
Hanoi, June 13, 2022 – Today, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman joining, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a new project to help Vietnam control the increasingly serious wildlife trafficking situation. The $15 million, five-year project, called Saving Threatened Wildlife, will work toward increasing Vietnam’s leadership in addressing wildlife crime by enhancing the commitment of Government of Vietnam leaders at the national and provincial levels, improving law enforcement effectiveness, and reducing demand and consumption of illegal wildlife products.
HANOI, June 12, 2022 – Today at Bach Mai Hospital, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman joined Vietnamese government and public health leaders to celebrate the start of the installation of a new liquid oxygen system provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Bach Mai oxygen system is the largest of 13 such systems being provided by USAID to health care facilities across Vietnam to support the care of patients with severe cases of COVID-19. Beyond COVID-19, strengthening access to oxygen can improve outcomes for newborns in respiratory distress; children with pneumonia, sepsis, and/or congenital heart disease; adults with tuberculosis; and beyond.
