USAID is providing an additional $4.5 billion in direct budgetary support
to the Government of Ukraine.

These funds will allow the Government of Ukraine to continue providing
essential services to its people, including social and financial assistance.

Administrator Power visited Colombia to attend the Inauguration of
President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego.

While there, she met with environmental defenders working to protect
biodiversity, advance climate action, and enhance rural development.

Newly assigned USAID leadership met with Administrator Power to
discuss how they will guide USAID’s inclusive development efforts.

USAID announced $!5 million for the United Nations Central Emergency
Response fund to mitigate food insecurity challenges in the Horn of Africa.

Administrator Power spoke with Stephen Colbert on USAID's work to stem migration, America's pledge of 500 million COVID-19 vaccines to other countries, and more. Administrator Power raised the profile of the crisis in Tigray, Ethiopia, convening global leaders to discuss next steps, and a meeting with musical artist & activist The Weeknd. She also announced $181 million in USAID assistance to the region. USAID sent a second plane with COVID-19 supplies to Bangladesh. Administrator Power discussed USAID's continued partnership with Afghanistan with President Ashraf Ghani.

Administrator Power testified on USAID's 2022 budget request before two committees in Congress. Administrator Power met with Colombian Vice President Ramírerz to discuss USAID-Colombian cooperation. To respond to democratic backsliding in El Salvador, USAID redirected certain funds to civil society groups. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, USAID is providing urgent humanitarian assistance due to the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano.

USAID airlifted emergency supplies for Nepal's deadly COVID-19 surge. In Madagascar, USAID helped set up 8 COVID-19 vaccination sites across the country. In response to the La Soufrière volcano, USAID provided $3.8 million in assistance for the people of Saint Vincent. USAID and partners developed the first-ever Filipino Sign Language curriculum, being piloted this school year.

Administrator Power met with Ayman Safad, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, on USAID's continued support for Jordanians during the pandemic and for Syrian refugees. Administrator Power held sessions with the faith-based community, addressing violations of religious freedom and human rights abuses. Administrator Power discussed U.S.-Australia cooperation in a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne. In Ukraine, USAID provided vouchers to families to purchase supplies to protect themselves from COVID-19. USAID is closely monitoring the activity in St. Vincent and Grenadines Soufrière volcano.

USAID's 19th Administrator, Samantha Power, was sworn in by Vice President Harris on May 3, 2021. In six days, USAID sent six flights carrying emergency medical supplies to help fight COVID-19 in India. Administrator Power announced a $300M partnership with UNICEF at the G7 Foreign and Development Ministerial. As one of her first actions, Administrator Power signed a new strategy to make USAID more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
