The $800,000 research is co-funded by the South African Government (SAG) to collect robust and empirically based qualitative and quantitative data on the nature and magnitude of trafficking in persons in South Africa. The data will be used in public-policy dialogues with relevant government departments (Department of Justice, Home Affairs, Social Development, Labor, Public Communication).
“Promoting Civic Education and Participation in South Africa” is a four-year, $4.8 million, program with Freedom House (FH) as the main implementer that seeks to ensure that South African citizens know their constitutional rights, tools, and platforms to engage meaningfully in the political processes. The program’s goal is to strengthen the ability of CSOs and CBOs to conduct civic education activities more effectively in their communities.
This $11 million, five-year activity to Strengthen Local Governance to improve response to GBV “Masiphephe Network” activity is implemented by the Centre for Communication Impact and focusses on four geographic districts: eThekwini (KZN), Johannesburg (GP), Ehlanzeni (MP) and Nkangala (MP). These four districts will allow USAID and GoSA to assess the project’s success in a variety of communities with different characteristics.
The Government Support Program II (GSP II) is implemented by the GIZ, a German federal enterprise, that supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The objective of the GSP II is to support targeted public institutions to implement the Back to Basics guiding principles (putting people first, good governance, improved financial management, institutional capacity and improved service delivery) for more transparent, accountable, effective and efficient service delivery at the local municipal level.
Advancing Rights in Southern Africa is a five-year, $12.5 million regional human rights program operating across the southern Africa region. The program is implemented by Freedom House in collaboration with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, Internews, and Pact. ARISA works in the following eight countries: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, and South Africa.
