USAID’s work on complex issues in ever-changing environments makes the knowledge of our staff and partners one of our most valuable resources. The effectiveness of our work depends on how well we create, retain, share and apply this knowledge so we can continuously learn and improve our programs. The Agency Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning (KMOL) function aims to strengthen knowledge management and organizational learning to achieve our development goals.

USAID’s KMOL efforts focus on four broad aims:

  • strengthening knowledge transfer so that we don’t lose valuable information and experience when staff rotate

  • building the infrastructure and processes for systematically and effectively creating, organizing and accessing knowledge

  • leveraging the knowledge of our staff and partners to influence strategy and action across the development sector

  • incorporating local knowledge and strengthening local knowledge systems for locally led development.
