(as prepared for delivery)

My name is Vong Socheata and I am a project management specialist focusing on inclusive governance at USAID/Cambodia. I am very honored to be here with you today. USAID is proud to support the Women Entrepreneurs Act (WE Act), the project in which I have been involved since 2018. I want to thank our longstanding partner – Pact Cambodia – for bringing us together in-person today.

The WE Act project has created an entrepreneurship ecosystem to support young women who own small and medium businesses, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19. Earlier in June, WE Act launched a magazine called “In Her Hands: The Magazine for Women Entrepreneurs” as an informational resource for young women entrepreneurs. This magazine is available both in print and online. WE Act also helps the women access mini-loans and mini-grants, as well as the financial literacy they need to start and grow their business.

I am very happy to see the representatives from the provincial government with us in-person and online to discuss the important issues that local youth leaders and young women entrepreneurs face. On behalf of USAID, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the national and sub-national government for their continued support to youth and young entrepreneurs in Cambodia and their collaboration with our activity.

I hope that yesterday’s discussions were fruitful. I look forward to hearing about the results later this morning.

USAID looks forward to working with the government, private sector, and local NGOs to help women and youth realize their economic potential and their voices as citizens.

Thank you very much!
