USAID has been on the frontlines of trying to address food security issues for many, many years. And after the last food crisis when we stood up Feed the Future, I think we saw some very promising signs of progress, real investments in food systems to help countries be more resilient and more secure in terms of being able to produce their own food.

This is my first trip back since 2015. Obviously, a lot has changed. Many of the reforms that were quite nascent back then have kicked in. And, obviously, the war has come to Kyiv – Putin’s invasion – the horrific atrocities that have devastated so many communities in Ukraine. So, the resiliency of the people: completely inspiring; the devastation wrought needlessly by Putin and his forces: heartbreaking – those are my initial impressions.
